Free Books!

Our library is overflowing with recent donations so we are taking the opportunity to  purge old and/or seldom used books to make room for the new. Please help yourself  to the books on the small table in the Narthex.

Also the book display shelf is filled with Advent & Christmas books that you are most  welcome to borrow.

Special thanks to all the "Christmas Elves" who helped with the lights - the trees - the decorating, the sprucing up, awesome volunteer work!!

Thank you to everyone who helped fill the food boxes - we filled both boxes to the top and also collected $350.00 to send in with the food.

Reaching Out Update....

WHERE DOES YOUR OUTREACH MONEY GO

This year you donated $3000 to help the homeless population in our city, namely Calgary Homeless Foundation, Central United Church Hub, and Glamorgan Care Centre. The Hub is in the heart of the city and recently welcomed on their site a new organization called Good Neighbour. Together they serve 5 lunches a week and run a “store” where street people can “shop” for free with no questions asked.

The Hub is distributing our 100 back packs and welcomes donations of new socks and underwear year-round. There is never enough! Good Neighbour is also looking for clean, used warm clothing for the store. Your Outreach Committee visited the Hub on a Tuesday when the store was open. Free foot care was being given, lunch was being served, and a table was set up by other partner organizations such as the Tsutina nation, Homeless Foundation & Alpha House to offer guidance and apply for housing. WE WILL BE COLLECTING DONATIONS FOR THE HUB DURING ADVENT. Watch here for their wish list.

Glamorgan care centre provides final housing for many aging street people. You cannot imagine a better environment for them, thanks to the love they receive from the staff there, specifically Melody Strand the recreation director. She says the clients become more stable once there and many can go out on their own. She uses our money for trips & treats. A first for some! Last spring Sue ran into a bus load of them with Melody at the Japanese garden in Lethbridge! WATCH FOR THEIR WISH LIST DURING ADVENT. It has changed a bit.

Suggestions for lesser-known deserving agencies on your radar welcome. We have a bit of money left. To spend in January. Call Sue at 403-242-5760.

The United Church of Canada has joyously installed the Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath as its 45th Moderator at Knox United Church in Calgary. Elected after three ballots at the 45th Last night, The United Church of Canada joyously installed the Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath as its 45th Moderator at Knox United Church in Calgary. Elected after three ballots at the 45th General Council (August 7–11), Rev. Heath is a long-time minister who has served Wall Street United Church in Brockville, Ontario since 2007.

The installation ceremony, which was livestreamed, included prayers in English, French, and Stoney Nakoda. Rev. Heath received several symbolic gifts and delivered a heartfelt reflection, encouraging the church to embrace its diversity and "bring out all of the flavours, all of the goodness." As the spiritual leader of the United Church, she will now serve a three-year term.

Congratulations to the Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath, the 45th Moderator of The United Church of Canada!

The "Blue Clothing Bin"  in the Lakeview UC parking has been successful so far! We have had several loads picked up already. Please consider dropping in your good used clothing, shoes/boots, outerwear, linens and towels. All donations will be weighed and we will be paid per pound for the donations. This is a "green initiative"  as all donations will be repurposed and nothing will go into landfill.  PLACE  ALL ITEMS IN A BAG AND PUSH THE DOOR UP TO DEPOSIT. Thank you for supporting this ongoing Lakeview UC fundraiser!  As of November 15 - Total Revenue to date is $802.00!!

Did you know that Lakeview United Church has partnered with Forte Music Studio to offer a FREE 30 minutes of music instruction for children ages 3–8 during our inspiring Sunday service?
