Bob Ross Paint Along produced many Happy Little trees (and a pig!)

Thanks to Avery for capably lending ‘Bob Ross’ a helping hand on Friday Night! (Unfortunately, as Heather discovered, Bob was unable to attend in person!) We appreciated Nancy, Gwen and Jean supporting the artistic endeavors behind the scenes; doling out paint as needed, changing up the brush cleaning water, and handing out copious quantities of paper towels which allowed the budding artists to concentrate on creating their masterpieces. Such wonderful and unique interpretations of Bob’s specific landscape directions resulted!

A big thank you to Roger Scroggins who spearheaded, and our Church Family Members who helped out with this project on August 14th. The many hands of Heather M, Ron G, Nancy G, Gwen J, Doug J, Barb P, Sue S, and Barb F made light work of the job!

June LUC Volunteer of the Month:

Congratulations to Wayne Gordanier on being recognized as June’s Volunteer of the Month at Lakeview United Church. Wayne has served on the Rejuvenation Task Force since it’s inception in the Fall of 2017. He can be found behind the scenes, brainstorming most Sundays with the rest of the group in the Fellowship Hall after Sunday Service, and volunteering at rejuvenation events spearheaded by this hardworking group. Thanks for all you do!

Peace Pole Bench Dedication:

Despite the wintery weather the Bench dedication was well attended after service on May 5th, 2019 . Rev. Jope led a very moving ceremony to dedicate the four benches located on the Southwest corner of the Church grounds. We hope that everyone will enjoy this quiet contemplative spot for years to come. May we all be inspired to pray for, and work towards Peace and Reconciliation in this sometimes troubled world….. The benches were generously donated by family members in memory of Karl Schrottner, Mervyn Baker, Anne Henderson, and Dr. Jack Derbyshire.

Name Tags:

The ordering of name tags is on hold until the Church Council meets in June and a decision is made whether or not to update the incorporated logo, which would come at additional expense and render existing name tags obsolete. If you wish to purchase a name tag, please call Vivian McFarland at 403-249-8513 and get your name on the list. Orders are placed in spring and fall. Name tags cost $8.25 + GST each, for either a pin or a strong magnet. Stay Tuned!

Quinterra Legacy Garden Project:

April 2019 marks the 5th anniversary of the loss of five inspiring young kids whose lives were lost on April 15, 2014 in the quiet suburban neighbourhood of Brentwood in Calgary. Since this time, their five families have come together along with an amazing group of volunteers to design a project that will give back to the community and acknowledge the incredible support they received after losing their children, and let others know that beyond tragedy and loss, there is light.

Quinterra Legacy Garden will be an interactive musical park and performance space that reflects hope, possibility, creativity and the life-affirming qualities that each of the five amazing young people embodied. Located in South Glenmore Park, this amenity will become Calgary’s first fully dedicated music garden and performance space. It will be accessible to Calgarians of all ages and will include interactive musical and play elements along with a 30-foot diameter stage for programming including music, dance, theatre, spoken word, yoga, meditation, healing circles, etc. For further information, and to donate to the venture please click on the following link:

Lakeview United Church Kids and Youth (LUCKY) Club

Are you looking for programs that help you to teach your children to be confident, caring and mindful individuals?

The Lakeview United Church Kids and Youth program runs every Sunday during the 10:00 service.  The children re-enact stories, share cooperative games, sing inspirational songs and do activities to support others such as Birthday boxes for the Food Bank.  Each month may centre around a theme such as January "Let My light shine" with children decorating dye-cut little houses with battery operated tea-lights inside.

For the little ones, under 2 years old, there is a play area in the sanctuary so that parents can participate in the service without worrying about being separated from their child.  Come and check it out!
